A four-month pregnant woman died this Tuesday (8), victim of a stray bullet in the community of Lins de Vasconcelos, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The shot that hit interior designer Kathlen Romeu, 24, came during a confrontation between the Military Police and a criminal group in the region. The woman was walking down the street with her grandmother when she was shot.
In a statement, the PM alleged that the confrontation began after suspects attacked agents of the Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) Lins in the location known as "Beco da 14". Also according to the corporation, the victim was found injured after the exchange of fire. She was rescued at the Salgado Filho Municipal Hospital, in Méier, but died.
Investigations into the death of the pregnant woman are at the Capital Homicide Office (DHC), which will hear witnesses and carry out steps to identify the shot came . So far, officers have seized only one rifle magazine, as well as 9mm ammunition and drugs.
Residents of Lins held a demonstration on the Grajaú-Jacarepaguá Highway, which connects the West and North zones of Rio. Both directions of the road were closed with garbage cans on Tuesday afternoon.

The Rio Operations Center (COR) announced that the interdicted stretch was reopened at 6:35 pm (Grajaú) and at 7:00 pm (Jacarepaguá).
